Weathering

Old facades, weather-beaten masonry, washed-out cliffs fascinate and inspire me. Nature leaves its marks on surfaces, wind and weather create fissures, cracks, erode layers and reveal the past. I try to express these processes in my pictures: I take sand in various grain sizes, spattle paste I make myself and mix them with colour pigments, then apply this onto the canvas in an elemental and spontaneous way. I wash paint layers off again, scratch off parts of the surfaces, or cause them to flake and burst.
