The relationship between the surfaces of a picture: this is the composition. I want it to be playful – and simultaneously measured. The calm of clearly defined areas is manoeuvred into a tension-filled exchange with charged, amorphous sections. The elements dance, they don’t stand still. Just as the surfaces relate to the strata under them, so do the surfaces to each other: wedged tight into each other in a not always harmonious, but always dynamic relationship: this is the basis for the composition of a picture.
